Biography
Mattia Beffa is a Swiss guitarist, singer-songwriter, music producer, and educator based in Ticino, Switzerland.
Born in Bellinzona in 1991, he discovered the guitar at the age of 16, inspired by rock and blues music. He soon formed his first band, began writing original songs, and gained extensive live experience, performing over 150 shows across Switzerland.
In 2017, he moved to Zurich to study jazz guitar at the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK). He later continued his education at Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts (HSLU), earning a Bachelor of Arts in Music in 2021 and a Master of Arts in Music Pedagogy in 2024.
During his studies, he worked with Theodoros Kapilidis, Roberto Bossard, Kalle Kalima, and Frank Möbus, and studied composition and arranging with Ed Partyka and David Grottoschreiber. He also attended masterclasses with Jesse van Ruller, Melissa Aldana, Jojo Mayer, and Billy Cobham.
Throughout his career, Mattia has explored a wide range of musical styles and projects, including three years with the Lakeside Big Band, a performance at JazzAscona in 2020, and a two-week busking adventure across Europe with the acoustic trio Caravan Motherfolkers.
Songwriting and music production are an important part of his work. He has participated in several songwriting camps, collaborating with other artists on original music.
His main artistic project is PepperDreams, an indie-folk duo with singer Susanna Lepori. As a guitarist, singer, songwriter, and producer, he has contributed to writing, arranging, and producing the duo’s original music and EPs. PepperDreams received a songwriting award at the 2018 Emergenza Festival and opened concerts for PFM and Eugenio Finardi.
Since 2024, Mattia has also been collaborating with Swiss singer-songwriter Sebalter.
Alongside his artistic career, he teaches guitar and leads ensemble classes at Musikschule Schwyz and Rock ID Music School, combining his academic background with practical experience in performance, songwriting, and music education.
Rooted in rock and blues, shaped by jazz, and inspired by folk and acoustic music, his approach brings together creativity, versatility, and a lifelong passion for music.
